Learning to Lead

This past weekend I went to Windy Gap (a Young Life camp) as a senior leader with three other leaders and about 14 freshman girls. All of our city went (the high schools), but I was proud with all the kids our small high school brought.

I was a little nervous coming, because since I dance the same night we have meetings, I hadn't really been able to establish a relationship with any of the girls (except my freshman neighbors who I take to school in the mornings, and they were not able to go.) I had prayed often that God would let camp be the time I was able to be myself and be a friend to all these girls. It was! It is incredible to see answered prayers. He listens to our every word, and answers prayers in accordance to His will --- it was cool to see that that was His will:).

I was also a little nervous because I tend to be a shy person, and I was going to have to step out and be a leader and an example for the girls. God was with me the whole way and helped me to even push through when I was feeling awkward to shy or whatever.
Our cabin was awesome and we had so much fun together! The whole weekend was such a success and I came home with so many new friends.

The talk over the weekend was about the great exchange...how we have exchanged the truth for a lie. But the even greater exchange of Jesus exchanging his life for ours.
Young Life always presents to gospel, the story of Jesus' sacrifice for us, but no matter how many times I hear it, God does something different in me and teaches me something new.
I love being there for these girls, and encouraging them really encourages me. It is one of the greatest experiences I have ever had, and am continuing to have.
A verse that I left my girls this week, and that encourages me each time I read it:

"I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Phil. 1:4-6

It is my prayer that they will learn that this is how both I and the other senior leaders feel about them. And that it will encourage them to read in the Bible and learn more about the God who sent His son to die to save the wretches --- us.

“…I think,' concluded Anne, hitting on a very vital truth, 'that we always love best the people who need us.”
 L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Avonlea

I don't mean that these girls need me in particular, rather someone to listen to them, and someone who can help point the way to Christ. But who we all really need is He. And God had a plan for each of them, whether He uses me directly or indirectly in that plan. And either way, that is exciting.
Love them!
